Mold
Good News - Our tenants finally left.
Bad News - They caused much more damage to the unit than we anticipated. There were leaks they never told us about so now we have mold everywhere. Even in closets which I find very weird. Their side of the basement is flooded from one of the the leaks. The stove is in pieces and they spray painted the bathroom tile black.
We have learned a lot about being landlords from this experience. But unfortunately it is not going to be a cheap leason. ¶ 7/09/2008 01:22:00 AM

I once rented a cabin in Maine near Rangeley. When I opened the door, the place was covered in mold. Mold was hanging from the ceiling, in the bed, just everywhere. The owners had left a leaky shower head going and with the place closed up for a bit, the mold had taken over. It was unbelievable. Needless to say, I didn't stay there.
Renters can be the pits. Sect 8 esp. Choose carefully and good luck if you decide to rent again.

While researching clean-up methods, consider the remarkable research on toxic mold removal done by environmental expert Dr Ed Close. Simply diffusing a therapeutic-grade essential oil regularly in this building will likely result in an environment very hostel to mold.
In one instance, 10,667 stachybotrys mold spores were identified in a per cubic meter area. After diffusing Thieves essential oil for forty-eight hours, Dr Close retested. Only thirteen stachybotrys remained. Similarly, 75,000 stachybotrys mold spores were identified in a sample of sheetrock. After seventy-two hours of diffusing, no stachybotrys mold spores remained. (Stachybotrys has a reputation for being the most toxic mold.)

Having a rental is a very very brave thing to do. I did it once - for about 2 months and that was enough for me!
