The Good, The Bad and The Powerless
From as early as I can remember, I always wanted to be powerful. I sought power and influence in dozens of ways. The more I sought power, the more it eluded me and the drunker I became. Eventually my alcoholism forced me to admit I was powerless or die. In fact the only real power I have ever had has come from admitting that I am powerless.

Comments:
Always an interesting concept.
Have a great HNT.

Thank you very much Trudge for your comment, you blogging veteran! I must say I think your blog title is unbeatable. Excellent. Second to none. Witty in a sort of dry, tongue in cheek way. I love it, always makes me chuckle when I think of that term of phrase. The scary thing is that it's so true though! Anyway I digress. I like your blog too. I loved the puritan food and sex posts. Heheh. I felt a lot of sympathy for poor old eileen that you mentioned recently. But then the more people are suffering, the more I feel bad for them. Its an involuntary response I have no control over! She is clearly in quite a damaged place. Many of my AA contemporaries have come from terrible !! rock bottoms, and have gone on to have deeply impressive recoveries, so I am always particularly drawn to the ones that everyone else is convinced are hopeless. Again I don't know why. I am lucky to have known people that teams of expert psychiatrists were unable to help, who went on to recover wonderfully in my old home group. One of my sponsees sponsees is quite mentally damaged, but is recovering in a way that surprises even me. I never cease to be amazed at how powerful god is when we submit to the aa instructions. But that's another story. Too long again!!!!! You can tell I am supposed to be heading to the gym by how long this post is! Better be off..

Yes, our favorite conundrum.

As always Trudge, an excellent post.

you seem to have a corner on telling the truth so simply---I admire that trait

Isn't this post the truth!! Thanks!

..and you turned out powerful after all :)
Thanks for sharing~

I will second what A-Brain already said! Is that truth or what? Great post, Trudge.
Peace,
Scout

have you ever read parker palmer? he speaks of using authority instead of power. when we build relationship and have worked through areas of our lives that have found healing we have authority in those areas.

when we haven't and use power instead it crushes, both us and those around us.

i thought it was such a beautiful addition to being powerless. power always gets me into trouble. standing on the authority i have gained in recovery allows me to speak from a place of wholeness.

great post trudge - you always make me think!

Hey trudge,
Thanks for the wonderful food for thought.

Thanks Trudge, as always.

Isn't that strange how that works. It is so simple, yet so hard to accept. But once accepted, watch out!

You rock Trudge.

Truth

Yes, funny how that works.

Wow, that was so powerful and yet so simple. It sure is the truth!
