I'm Not Listening
When I was a Newcomer to A.A., Oldtimers used to tell us to take the cotton out of our ears and put in in our mouths. At the time, I was offended. To be fair however, just about everything offended me in those days. I can now say that I am really glad that people stressed listening with me in those days. LOL @ the last comment! I have to remember that I don't have to follow the person's lifestyle, just listen to their feelings and their understandings of how the steps and stuff like that works! hee hee My first sponsor, however, told me that I should be careful about what I hear in AA meetings because, "People will send you hunting bears with BB guns!" Anyway, I listened, I just didn't follow any of the suggestions!!! Okay, so I did follow some. But "MY WAY" many times, which always seemed to get me into some sort of jam. I'm a little better today at listening and then doing what is suggested. Thank goodness for that!
Well I for one needed to listen and I still do. Sometimes I hear the best stuff from the weirdest people. It is the person I dimiss as a flake who ends up saving my ass when I really, really need it.
Right. Take what you want and leave the rest. Isn't that what we've always done. It works in AA too. If I never listen, then why go? I speak if I have something I really need to say or add to the discussion.
